  • About August 11th, field operations are scheduled to start. Enumerators will be visiting every household that has not yet responded to the census.

  • If you do not have access to the internet, or need assistance, the branches of the Ocean County Library are now open to the public. They have laptops dedicated to public use for completing the Census and trained staff to assist you if you need help. Please respect social distancing guidelines and wear a mask inside the building. In addition, over the next few weeks, Census Partnership Specialists will be outside at the Lakewood, Toms River and Long Beach Island branches to enumerate on the spot. Please contact the Library to confirm the schedule before going.

  • Everyone living in the United States has the right to be counted in the 2020 Census. Every person, every child, every neighbor, every student, every immigrant, everyone. There is no citizenship question on the US Decennial Census..

  • Census data and the collection of the data is strictly confidential and protected by Federal Law under Title 13. The information on the census questionnaire cannot be used for any other purpose or shared with any other institutions or agencies..

  • The recent $106 million federal CARES Act aid package to fight the COVID-19 crisis and the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Recovery Grants are two examples of the kind of federal programs that can be impacted by the census..

  • Census data directly affects how more than $45 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to New Jersey and its counties, municipalities and communities for many programs and services. This comes out to about $5,160 per New Jersey resident for important infrastructure improvements, senior services, public health, education, transportation, including block grant programs, such as Hurricane Sandy Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Grants. The Census population also determines Congressional representation. New Jersey lost a seat in the last two censuses..
